Fathom Financial Consulting undertakes a variety of consultancy work for its clients, but broadly speak it falls into three distinct categories:
- Financial
- Corporate
- Pensions
For a brief description of each category, please see below, or alternatively, please click here to view a selection of case studies.
Financial
Our financial consultancy work best illustrates Fathom Financial Consulting’s raison d’être – to integrate financial market analysis with macroeconomics in a rigorous, relevant and cutting-edge way. Fathom has undertaken a number of bespoke projects for financial sector clients, from building a medium-sized macroeconomic model of the US economy for a major wealth management client to analysing the risk profile of specific trading strategies for a large London-based hedge fund. Projects have included quantitative analysis of specific trades as well as the construction of financial screens based on econometric valuation techniques. Recent work has focused on the role of credit in the macroeconomy.
In addition, Fathom specialises in undertaking bespoke, in-depth analysis of a specific question or area of interest for a given client. Topics covered vary enormously in terms of subject matter and geographical focus. Over recent months, topics covered include the possible impact of the dollar's decline on gold prices, the UK banking system's prospects, commercial property returns to China's fiscal sustainability.
Corporate
Fathom has also undertaken a wide range of projects for corporate sector clients (including government agencies, think-tanks and NGOs). Typically, these projects involve some element of economic modelling: assessing the prospects for a particular industrial sector; evaluating the impact of the introduction of a certain kind of economic policy; exploring the prospects and risks for revenues and expenditures at the macroeconomic level for whole economies or for individual city councils; estimating the economic impact of sporting events; forecasting the P&L for an individual company; and many others. Often, the modelling task will involve linking a particular sector to the wider macroeconomy, using cutting-edge techniques and a firm grasp of the latest advances in economic theory. But we always ensure that the technical aspects of the project do not cloud the bigger picture - our final results are presented in clear, simple language, drawing attention to what our research means for the client. Technical expertise combined with the ability to express our findings in plain English are central to all our work in this area.
