Sovereign Fragility Index (SFI)

About the index

Fathom Financial Consulting has compiled a Sovereign Fragility Index (SFI) for 20 countries including the UK, which attempts to measure how the sum of default and inflation risk varies over time and across countries. We find that sovereign fragility depends on the size and rate of change in government debt, the proportion of that debt that is held externally, the potential exposure of the sovereign to a collapse in the value of private banking sector assets, and the volatility of growth and inflation.
