Table-Top Exercise Service
Interactive learning: bringing economics to life
Our table-top exercises (TTXs) are a unique and immersive way for groups to explore the risks that matter to their organisation. We design bespoke scenarios for public- and private-sector teams to move through, using cutting-edge technology and proprietary data. You act as the decision-maker, navigating uncertainty and weighing up the trade-offs, while we show you the dynamic impact of your choices in real time. Sessions are followed up with an after-action review to highlight key takeaways and lessons learned.
Our Table-Top Exercise Service is here to assist your scenario planning, whether you are concerned about macroeconomic, financial market or geopolitical risk. Sessions last from a couple of hours to a few days, depending on the level of service.

Case study
China-US AI competition: a TTX examining the geopolitical consequences of AI, depending on whether countries opt for labour-supporting or labour-replacing technology.
“Fathom’s TTX exploring the impact of artificial intelligence on US–China competition was engaging, rigorous, and highly interactive. It successfully bridged geopolitical strategy with socio-economic modelling, offering participants a rare opportunity to test assumptions about labour dynamics, automation, and national resilience. Fathom always pushes me to think in three dimensions: geopolitics, markets, and technology, all at once.”
Liza Tobin, Senior Director for Economy, Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP), 2021-2025
Other examples
Making monetary policy: Fathom helped train emerging market central banks on monetary policy. Participants were first briefed on the scenario, their policy tools and their objective functions. They were then presented with an evolving set of macroeconomic and financial market developments. They were tasked with setting monetary policy and could see the impact of their decisions on economic growth and inflation.
Playing for politics in the Pacific: Fathom ran a TTX assessing the efficacy of diplomacy, economics and geopolitics in persuading non-aligned Indo-Pacific nations to aid a joint response. Participants were faced with a crisis scenario that required global coordination to resolve. Contributors represented different interests within society, but had to agree on the type of tool to use. Fathom revealed the impact of their decision-making, and highlighted the combination that would have been most effective based on proprietary tools.
Exploring a multipolar world: Fathom provided economic adjudication for a multi-decade, multi-turn TTX, that considered a shifting global order. Participants representing key sectors and nations had individual targets and were given the ability to make long-term investments – both financial and political. Fathom acted as a source for economic, financial market and geopolitical information, and used our suite of tools to help adjudicate each turn.
