It is now a straight race across many developed economies between the second wave of COVID cases (and subsequent excess mortality) and the rate at which the population can be vaccinated. The UK stands out as having a high number of deaths and a high number of vaccinations: we are hopeful that the tide will turn imminently, with cases and excess mortality falling sharply in the months to come.
